About the Book
Much has been written about the Calgary Flames hockey team, but nowhere has the club’s entire history been gathered together in one place – until now!
Introducing Epic Legacy of the Calgary Flames, a large format, limited edition book developed by Epic Legacies Inc. in cooperation with the Calgary Flames, LLC, and Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation.
The first publication of its kind to feature an NHL hockey team, the book chronicles highlights of the club’s entire history; from its beginnings as the Atlanta Flames in the 1970’s to its move to Calgary in 1980, then onward as the Calgary Flames. Included are long-forgotten stories and rarely seen photographs featuring the people, places and events that shaped the club into what it is today.
Relying on his 34 years of experience reporting on the club, noted sports writer George Johnson brings to life the story behind the 1989 Stanley Cup champions for the benefit of fans for generations to come.
In George’s words, “This book chronicles the unforgettable moments and compelling players and personalities that have captured Calgary’s imagination since the Flames’ arrival from Atlanta in 1980. From the Corral to the Saddledome, from Nilsson to McDonald to Iginla, three runs to the Stanley Cup final, capped, of course, by May 25, 1989 at the Montreal Forum. An amazing ride.”
Tipping the scales at 10 pounds and beautifully packaged in a custom gift box, each book is individually numbered and contains a certificate of authenticity. Features include letters from well-known players, historical memorabilia inserts, a team statistical record book and several fold-out sections. The inside front cover of the gift box features a limited edition print of a painting by acclaimed artist Joan Healey, specially commissioned to accompany the book.
One feature that has proven to be a fan favourite is the invitation to upload a photo of themselves to be printed in every book, forever uniting them with their team.
The book sells for $249 plus shipping and tax, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Calgary Flames as well as an honorarium to the Calgary Flames Alumni in support of their many projects.
Ideal for gift giving, we will gladly ship directly to your gift recipient anywhere in Canada or the U.S.A. Plus, check the gift card request and we’ll mail you a gift card, so you can let the lucky recipient know what’s coming and invite them to upload their photo to be printed in every book!
Epic Legacy of the Calgary Flames is not available in stores. Fans can reserve their individually numbered, limited edition books directly from the publisher through this website. Only those books ordered by February 28, 2019 will be printed, with delivery approximately June 1, 2019.
About the Publisher
Grant Lovig, President & CEO
Founder Grant Lovig brings more than 30 years of publishing experience to Epic Legacies Inc. He previously served as president of Company’s Coming Publishing Limited, a company he co-founded with his mother, Jean Paré.
Company’s Coming published and distributed Canada’s biggest-selling cookbooks, with sales of more than 30 million books. That works out to an average of more than 2 Company’s Coming cookbooks for every household in Canada, with a retail value of more than $500 million. After 30 years, the mother and son team hung up their aprons with the sale of the family company in 2010. By that time the company had published more than 200 titles, every one a North American bestseller.
Grant has been involved with numerous other business ventures over his career, ranging from gasoline marketing to online specialty insurance. In 1986 he co-founded Comac Food Group Inc, a publicly-traded quick service restaurant franchising company that went on to own Company’s Coming Bakery Cafes, Grabbajabba Specialty Coffee, Pastels Cafes and the Canadian master franchise rights for Domino’s Pizza.
Grant founded Epic Legacies Inc. in 2015 with a plan to celebrate the historic journeys of leading professional and college sports teams. He is accomplishing that goal through the creation of large-scale publications that allow fans to share in the legacies of the teams they love.
Epic Legacies Inc.
Epic Legacies is all about celebrating historic journeys of professional and college sports teams. We create large format, limited edition publications of exceptional quality and purpose for the benefit of fans for generations to come.
The goal of each publication is to deepen the relationship between a team and their fans. By delving into a club’s archives, we chronicle highlights of their entire history; from their very beginnings to the present era. We bring to light long-forgotten stories and rarely seen photographs featuring the people, places and events that shaped the club into what it is today.
Far more than a statistical record, we share personal insights from players, coaches and management of yesteryear and today. What drove them to succeed? How did they cope with failure? We talk about the good times as well as the challenges faced at different points throughout the club’s history. We also look beyond the club, to its league and to its community.
The resulting publication is a feature-loaded, large format, limited edition coffee table book that tips the scales at better than 10 pounds! Features include in-page pockets containing letters from players, autograph cards, fold-out multi-page photographic spreads, place-marker ribbons, a team statistical record book plus special elements unique to the team.
One feature that has proven to be a fan favourite is the invitation to every book buyer to upload a photo of themselves to be printed in every copy of the book, forever uniting them with their team.
The team’s story is brought to life by a knowledgeable and well-known sports writer and is illustrated with carefully-selected and often rare photographs. Each book is individually numbered and contains a certificate of authenticity. Each volume is beautifully packaged in a custom-designed gift box.
Sales of the publication are made directly to fans and supporters of the club by the publisher, Epic Legacies Inc., with a portion of sale proceeds returned to the club. Following publication, orders are promptly delivered to the customer’s door.
